The Golden Boys are busy with their tour in clubs around South Afrika. This past sat 11 May ’13 they were in Tshwane at Cafè Del Khuze. Dishing out some serious house tunes that demolish all musical boundaries you might have had. We captured some of their vibe and it was a good vibe.

After a stressful week, I attended the annual Back to the city hip hop event in Newtown Johannesburg. It made me feel old when I looked around only to find that persons much younger than I am made up the majority of the crowd. The sound was not so good, I still had a two hour trip ahead of me, I was tired. But for the time I was there, I made the best of it.
I love the black n white images more. Just this time around, I thought I should share both color and B&W images. You decide which is better.
When I was a laatie, Gauteng was a name we used to refer to Johannesburg. We called her Gauteng Maboneng (A place of gold and (bright street) lights. Today Gauteng is the province at the heart of South Afrika, Maboneng is a district which has dethroned Newtown as the artsy, lost soul, trustafarian, hippie hangout.
This is the face of the city that many who live in it do not know about, but we know where to find it. We know where to find each other…
This was an event I stumbled upon on my way back to Mpumalanga. It was like the whole city was stoned.

Sakhile (We have built) was a South African “African Jazz” band, it is also the name of this brother here. Sipho Gumede, Khaya Mahlangu, Menyatso Mathole and Mabi Thobejane are the original members of Sakhile. Together and apart, they made timeless music. We remember those among them that left us behind, their music won’t let us forget.
